2013 marks 15th year as a full time Technical Writer. I spent over 20 years working in Information Technology as a Data Processing Operator, Mainframe Computer Operator and Relational Database Developer. Throughout my IT career, I have always written procedures and user documentation. As a programmer I was involved in writing the documents produced during each stage of the software development lifecycle, including tender responses, analysis and design documents, user and system documentation and training courses.

When I discovered that I was a better writer than a programmer, I made the switch to Technical Writing as a full time career after completing a Diploma in Communication (Technical) at the Canberra Institute of Technology in 1998. I have been working as a contract Technical Writer since 1999.

The majority of my writing has been creating user documentation for software products, but I have extensive experience as an Instructional Designer writing, and occasionally, delivering training courses. I have written workbooks for classroom based or self-paced training and eLearning courses. I really enjoy the challenge and creativity of instructional design and it is a good balance to the rigidity of straight technical writing.

I have always been interested in the Internet and have been designing, building and maintaining web sites for the past few years. As a consequence, I am an experienced web content writer with great design and HTML skills. I also have experience with Search Engine Optimisation.

I have a keen interest in work health and safety, which inspired my to complete a Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety earlier this year. I would love the opportunity to work in this area combining my passion for writing with my interest in safety.
